This legally binding contract for the purchase of a Beagle is entered into by the “PURCHASER”,
________________________ and the “BREEDER”, Laura Short.
The above named & registered Beagle is sold with the following conditions:
The purchaser wishes to acquire the above described Beagle for a sum of $800.00 (eight hundred
dollars and zero cents) which is the purchase price. The purchase price was paid in full on
_____/_____/_____.
I. HEALTH
1. The breeder certifies said dog/bitch to be in good health of the date of sale.
2. This dog/bitch is to be taken to a licensed veterinarian of the purchaser’s choice and at the
purchaser’s expense within 4 days of the date of sale for a health examination. Proof of such
examination must be received by the breeder within 14 days of the exam.
3. If said dog/bitch is found ill on it’s first examination, the breeder must be notified by phone within
48 hours of the examination, and the said dog/bitch returned to the breeder at the purchaser’s
expense within 7 days of the exam. The breeder will replace the dog/bitch with a dog/bitch of the
breeder‘s choice from a future litter. The purchaser will be responsible for the cost of transportation
for the replacement Beagle.
4. If this dog/bitch develops a serious hereditary, congenital, or genetic defect within the first 3
years of its life serious enough that:
a) the dog/bitch must be humanly euthanized
b) will render the dog/bitch to need expensive veterinary care to overcome the defect (exceeding
the purchase price in cost)
c) will render the dog/bitch unsuitable as a pet
The purchaser may choose one of the following:
a) Have the dog/bitch humanly euthanized. The breeder will replace the dog/bitch with a dog/bitch
of the breeder’s choice from a future litter after receiving a signed statement from the veterinarian
stating why the dog/bitch was humanly euthanized. The purchaser will be responsible for the cost
of transportation for the replacement Beagle.
b) return the dog/bitch to the breeder at the purchaser’s expense with a signed statement from a
licensed veterinarian stating that the dog/bitch has a serious hereditary, congenital, or genetic
defect that will render the dog/bitch unsuitable as a pet. The breeder will replace the dog/bitch with
a dog/bitch of the breeder’s choice from a future litter after return of the dog/bitch with veterinary
statement. The purchaser will be responsible for the cost of transportation for the replacement
Beagle.
c) keep the dog/bitch and send a signed statement from a licensed veterinarian stating that the
dog/bitch will require expensive (exceeding the purchase price) veterinary care to overcome a
hereditary, congenital, or genetic defect. The breeder will offer the purchaser half of the purchase
price of this dog/bitch towards the purchase of another dog/bitch from the breeder. No refunds will
be made.
II. CARE
1. The purchaser agrees to provide acceptable health care, shelter, training, diet, & exercise for this
dog/bitch in accordance with the purchaser’s local, state, and national laws.
2. The purchaser agrees to feed the dog/bitch either a Super-Premium dog food (no grocery store
brands) that DOES NOT CONTAIN CORN of any kind, a RAW food diet, or a BARF diet that contains
NO CORN.
3. The purchaser agrees to never allow the dog/bitch to become obese or overweight. All the ribs
should be able to be felt easily, but not seen. The dog/bitch should always have an hour-glass
figure.
4. The purchaser agrees to have this dog/bitch’s Hips OFA’d between the ages of 24 and 30 months
of age. Forms and more information concerning this procedure can be found at www.offa.org This
procedure must be done by a licensed veterinarian and results must be submitted to the OFA no
matter what the attending veterinarian’s diagnosis is. A copy of the OFA report must be sent to the
breeder.
III. LIFETIME TAKE-BACK POLICY
If for any reason after the first veterinary examination in the purchaser’s care (not including illness),
the purchaser is unable to keep or maintain the dog/bitch, the purchaser agrees to return the
dog/bitch to the breeder at the purchaser’s expense along with signed AKC papers and health
records - at NO COST to the breeder. The purchaser may never sell, lease, or give this dog/bitch to
anyone besides the breeder without a written and signed agreement from the breeder. The
purchaser must pay all costs involved with returning the dog/bitch to the breeder.
IV. FURTHER AGREEMENTS
1. The breeder does not guarantee the size or anatomical makeup of this dog/bitch at maturity. After
the date of purchase, the purchaser assumes all responsibility for the size and anatomical makeup
of the dog/bitch.
2. The breeder does not assume any responsibility for any injury to the dog/bitch after purchase.
3. The breeder shall not be held responsible for the development of disqualifying faults, diseases,
or disorders, which are due to the purchaser’s negligence.
4. The breeder shall not be held responsible for acts of the dog/bitch, which are due to the buyer’s
negligence.
5. The purchaser agrees to send pictures and updates on the dog/bitch to the breeder on regular
intervals so that the breeder can see how the dog/bitch matures.
6. The purchaser agrees to notify the breeder of any changes of address during the dog/bitch’s
lifetime.
7. The purchaser agrees to register this dog/bitch in his/her name within 90 days of the date of
purchase, AT THE PURCHASER’S EXPENSE.
V. OTHER
1. Should the purchaser violate ANY part of this contract, the breeder may choose to take one of the
following:
a) Choose to be relieved of all liability and void this contract. This contract will then become null &
void.
b) Choose to repossess the said Beagle, with the purchaser paying for all court costs,
transportation (of Beagle, breeder, & attorneys), all other expenses related to the repossession, and
damages as described in the next paragraph.
2. If the breeder repossesses the said Beagle and the purchaser has violated any part of this
contract, the purchaser fully agrees to pay the breeder $5,000 in damages upon written demand
from the breeder. It is agreed that this amount shall be binding upon the purchaser.
3. The deposit agreement signed by both the breeder and purchaser is part of this contract.
This is a legally binding contract controlled by the laws of South Carolina. It is agreed that shall
there be any disagreements between the two parties it will be settled in Berkeley County, South
Carolina. Oral modifications to this contract shall not be permitted. In the event that the parties
agree to additional terms, these terms shall be reduced to writing, signed by both parties, and
attached.
