Q: Why do your puppies cost so much? A: Our prices are based on the costs of raising a litter of Beagles, health testing the parents, and veterinary care. Our pet puppies are already spayed/neutered, all our puppies are microchipped, and all our puppies are registered (AKC & UKC) prior to sale.
Q: What is your policy on deposits? A: We keep a waiting list. Deposits are non-refundable should you decide not to purchase one of our puppies - but can be transferred to another litter. If for any reason we decide not to sell you a puppy, or we are not able to provide you with a suitable puppy we will refund your deposit. Our deposit price is $200 (See our "Deposit Agreement").
Q: How does my deposit affect the puppy I receive? A: We maintain two separate lists, one for pet puppies & one for breeding puppies. We try to help match puppies to their families based on your answers to our "Questionnaire".
Q: Should I get a male or female? A: This depends upon if you are looking for a pet or breeding prospect. If you are looking for a pet (our pet puppies are spayed/neutered prior to sale), please consider that generally:
-Neutered Males: Don't mark (pee) their territory, are more playful (clown-like), take training less serious, are very affectionate, are more tolerant of children. -Spayed Females: May still mark (pee) their territory, are less playful, take training more serious, are less affectionate with their feelings towards you (diva-like), are less tolerant of children (diva-like).
If you are just beginning a breeding program, you should not go any other way than to start with a female.
You should only consider an unaltered male (unfixed) if you already have an established breeding program.
Q: Can I name my own pup? A: Every dog we produce is named with the "A-Quality" kennel name in the front of his/her registered name. Our puppies are named after the first two letters of their dam's name. For example, Cammie's daughters were "A-Quality Calista Bliss" and "A-Quality California Dreaming", "Cali" & "Caite". You may change the dog's call (pet) name, however since we have a registered kennel name and fully register our puppies in our name prior to sale, their registered names cannot be changed.
Q: What age do you allow your puppies to leave for their new homes? A: We do not let our pet puppies go to their new homes until they are at least 9 weeks of age. Our puppies sold as breeding stock do not leave us prior to 4 months of age.
Q: What do you feed your dogs/puppies? A: We are currently feeding Purina. Our puppies leave with a Purina puppy kit and small bag of food.
Q: Do you sell minature/pocket Beagles? A: We do not sell or recommend minature/pocket beagles or any breeder who intentionally breeds them without health testing them first. Most Beagles under 11 inches tall should never be bred from as they generally are more likely to have health problems as well as dwarfism. I have seen very few breeders who produced minature/pocket Beagles that lived past 5-7 years of age. The most common problem was cardiac (heart) issues. If you must know that your Beagle will be a certain size at maturity, please do not buy a Beagle under the age of 9-12 months old. A small (10-13 inch tall) Beagle can come from two 15 inch tall parents. Another interesting thing to consider is that 13 inch (and under) Beagles generally have more energy indoors than 15 inch Beagles.
Q: What size Beagles do you breed? A: Our current breeding stock is 13 to 14 inches at the withers (shoulders). Although we prefer 12 to 14 inches at the withers, we have produced Beagles as small as 11 inches and as large as 16 inches. If you have a preference towards size, please let us know when you make your deposit.
Q: Will your Beagle puppies hunt? A: Most of our Beagle puppies do show potential to be able to work in the field, although the majority do not get the opportunity as they are placed in pet homes. We feel that most Beagles could do work in the field if they had proper training and experience beginning at a young age, because of this we do not currently guarantee hunting ability in our puppies. If you would prefer a puppy that you will be able to take along hunting, please let us know when you make your deposit.
Q: Is it better to get one puppy or two puppies? A: Two puppies raised together will generally bond closer to each other than to their owner, are hardier to housetrain/cratetrain, and take longer to obedience train. We only sell two puppies at the same time if the new owner understands the time and work that will be involved in getting two puppies at the same time. We highly recommend getting one puppy and waiting 12-24 months until the first puppy has bonded to its owner, then getting a second puppy.
Q: Do you sell show quality puppies? A: We do not sell "show puppies" as most breeders do, we believe that only puppies of breeding quality should be shown in conformation events (as these events were initially instituted to compare breeding stock). Our breeding quality puppies are guaranteed not to develop any breed disqualifying faults, however we cannot guarantee any puppy's future success in conformation events as this depends heavily on the handler's skills. If you wish to compete in conformation events we will help to educate you and recommend that you attend handling classes held by your local kennel club.
Q: Do you ship your puppies? A: Although we prefer that you come pick your puppy up here, We will drive up to 60 miles one way to meet you or deliver your Beagle if we receive payment in advance (see below). We also offer shipping by air or ground at the buyer's expense for our dogs and puppies unless we feel it is not in the best interest of a particular dog or puppy.
Q: Will you hold a pet puppy past 9 weeks of age? A: We understand that when a puppy is ready for his/her new home at 9 weeks of age, that the timing might not be right.
We will hold a puppy until 12 weeks of age if we have received full payment for the puppy; at no additional charge. We will also hold a puppy beyond 12 weeks of age if we have received full payment for the puppy along with a boarding fee of $10 per day for each day after 12 weeks of age.
The puppy will be kept up to date on all vaccinations, worming, heartworm prevention, flea/tick prevention, and vet care during this time.
Q: May we visit your home/kennel? A: We do allow visitors to our property, however for the safety of our dogs and ourselves, we require a completed Questionnaire for anyone wishing to visit us.
We will also require you to disinfect your hands and shoes prior to visiting with our Beagles.
You may visit with our puppies after 7 weeks of age (one week after their first vaccination). If we have puppies under 7 weeks of age at the time of your visit, please understand that we will not allow you into our home, however you may visit with our adult Beagles and any puppies over 7 weeks of age (except the mother(s) of any puppies under 7 weeks of age, as they are still spending time teaching their puppies how to be a dog).
Q: What is your Sales Procedure for your Beagles? A: First you need to fill out our Questionnaire. Once we have read over it, we will contact you to discuss our Beagles. If it has been over 48 hours since you filled out a questionnaire and you have not received a reply from us, please check your spam filter then contact us to make sure we received it.
You will then have the option to send us a deposit to join our waiting list for current puppies, current litters, and upcoming litters (See our "Deposit Agreement"). If you are interested in a dog or puppy that is ready to go to a new home now, you can set up a time to come meet us and our Beagles.
For dogs & puppies that are shipped/delivered by air or ground, we accept personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks if we receive them at least 10 days prior to shipping/delivery - however, if shipping is requested or required within less than 10 days we must receive an overnighted USPS money order prior to shipping.
For dogs & puppies that are picked up here we only accept payment by cash. If you do not bring cash at the time of pickup you will be directed to the nearest ATM. If you do not wish to bring cash with you, you can choose to pay for your Beagle the same as if you were having him/her shipped, prior to pickup.
We require a signed Sales Contract for all of our Beagles prior to them being shipped or picked up.
