Our Breeding Ethics
A-Quality Beagles, Reg'd.
Our written Code of Breeding Ethics is for the future of
the breed, the welfare of our dogs, to have a written
standard to breed by, and to encourage other breeders
to be ethical when breeding. This breeding code of
ethics will apply to all of our breedings after
January 1st, 2011.
1.) We will only breed a purebred AKC registered Beagle to another
purebred AKC registered Beagle. We will not participate in or
condone the breeding of mix-breed or designer dogs, nor will we
participate in or condone the breeding of dogs that are not
registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC).

2.) All Beagles used in our breeding program or sold unaltered
(unfixed) as breeding stock will be DNA profiled to maintain the
integrity of our breeding program.

3.) All of our dogs/puppies will be permanently identified by
microchip. This will be done within 30 days of acquiring an adult
Beagle, or by 9 weeks of age in puppies (unless recommended
otherwise by a licensed veterinarian).

4.) All of our puppies will be named and registered with our kennel
prefix prior to sale. (Since we have an AKC registered kennel name,
the registered names of our dogs/puppies cannot be changed)

5.) We do not allow our puppies to leave for new homes prior to
nine weeks of age. (Puppies sold as breeding stock will not leave
prior to 4 months of age)

6.) All puppies/dogs sold will be examined by a licensed
veterinarian and have a current veterinarian issued health
certificate (within 10 days of sale).

7.) All breeding stock will be examined at a minimum annually by a
licensed veterinarian to insure their health, well being, and
suitability for breeding. This will include screening for heartworms
& brucellosis.

8.) We will have a microchip scanner on hand at all times for
immediate verification of each dog/puppy's identification.

9.) All dogs/puppies will be sold with a written contract/guarantee.

10.) All dogs/puppies sold as pets will be spayed/neutered prior to
sale.

11.) We will not breed dogs under 24 months of age, females over
8 years of age or males over 12 years of age. (Our females
generally retire by 6 years of age)

12.) We will not allow our females to give birth to more than 5
litters in their lifetime.

13.) We will not allow our females to give birth to more than 2
litters in any 18 month period.

14.) We will not allow our males to sire (father) more than 6 litters
per calender year or 50 litters in their lifetime so that their
offspring will never make up more than 1/100th of the number of
AKC registered Beagles in any given year. This is to prevent
popular
sire syndrome and overbreeding.

15.) All of our dogs will acquire a
CHIC number prior to breeding.
(*Note* We also test for
Patella Luxation in our dogs prior to
breeding)

16.) All of our breeding stock will have a
CERF eye exam at a
minimum, every 24 months.

17.) All of our health test results will be made publicly available on
the
OFA database as well as on our Health Test Results page,
whether they are good or bad (passing or failing).

18.) We will not knowingly sell/give/trade a dog/puppy to a
research laboratory, pet shop, wholesaler, broker, dog dealer,
puppymill, or anyone known to be associated with them.

19.) We will take back any dog/puppy bred by us at any time in the
dog's life and for any reason. We do not wish to see or hear of a
dog/puppy we bred ending up with a rescue, shelter or unwanted.

20.) We will not euthanize any dog/puppy unless it is in the best
interest of the dog/puppy's quality of life. All dogs/puppies
removed from our breeding program whose quality of life is good
will be spayed/neutered and placed as pets.
